Keeping one step ahead

Helping a large not-for-profit leverage GHG emissions reporting to improve their chance of winning a competitive tender.

With a reputation for making a positive social impact, when a client received an invitation from a supplier to participate in a request for proposal (RfP), they wanted to ensure transparency and accountability of the environmental impact of their operations.

As part of the RFP process, offerors were evaluated and awarded contracts based on a point-scoring system. An offeror was eligible for additional points for publicly disclosing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

But faced with the time constraints imposed by the RfP, limited internal resources and communication barriers across their 50 global locations, completing GHG calculations independently was a challenge for the client. So they turned to our US team for help.

Breaking down the complex

Breaking down what initially seemed like a daunting task, our team worked alongside the client to understand the extent of their emission reporting and ensure alignment in data collected across their global locations.

Armed with this information, our team calculated scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions utilising the EPA’s Simplified GHG Emissions Calculator. They also identified gaps and made recommendations for future reporting requirements using best-in-class resources from the GHG Protocol and the EPA.

Future proofing reporting

By publicly disclosing their GHG emissions the client was awarded additional points in the RfP, giving them an advantage over their competitors.

By the client didn’t stop there.

Recognising the need for transparancy in their reporting outside the RfP process, they are now working to implement the recommendations and best practices suggested by our team to strengthen their GHG emissions reporting.

With this proactive preparation for future reporting, the client is better positioned to avoid compliance issues and continue to impact communities across the globe positively.
